The Newcastle United 1995-96 Goalkeeper Jersey comes from one of the most memorable seasons in the club’s modern history, when Kevin Keegan’s attacking side became known as “The Entertainers” and mounted a dramatic challenge for the Premier League title.
Newcastle used two particularly striking goalkeeper colourways during the campaign: a blue-and-grey design and an alternative purple-and-green version. Both featured the oversized geometric graphics and bold contrasting panels characteristic of mid-1990s goalkeeper shirts. Period kit documentation confirms both designs as part of Newcastle’s 1995/96 goalkeeper range.
The shirt is principally associated with Shaka Hislop and Pavel Srníček, who shared goalkeeping duties during the season. Hislop ultimately made the greater number of appearances, while Srníček retained the traditional No.1 shirt.

Managed by Kevin Keegan, Newcastle finished second in the Premier League, having led the standings for much of the season before Manchester United eventually overtook them during the closing stages.
The team became renowned for its attacking football. Les Ferdinand scored 25 Premier League goals and 29 in all competitions, while Peter Beardsley, David Ginola, Rob Lee and Keith Gillespie formed part of an exceptionally creative attacking side.
There was also an important change in goal during the campaign. Shaka Hislop joined Newcastle in the summer of 1995 and became the most frequently used goalkeeper, making 24 Premier League appearances. Pavel Srníček made 15 league appearances, including 14 starts. Hislop recorded nine league clean sheets, compared with four for Srníček.
The squad records also clarify an important printing detail. Pavel Srníček was No.1, while Shaka Hislop wore No.15. Hislop made 28 appearances across the domestic competitions recorded for the season, compared with 19 appearances including substitute appearances for Srníček.
Newcastle's goalkeeper jerseys therefore have a strong connection to both players rather than a single undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. Hislop played more frequently during this particular campaign, while Srníček's No.1 and his longer-standing association with Newcastle make him an equally authentic representation of the era.

Printing Recommendation HISLOP 15 The strongest season-specific choice. Shaka Hislop made 24 Premier League appearances and 28 appearances across the recorded domestic competitions, establishing himself as Newcastle’s most-used goalkeeper during the title challenge. SRNÍČEK 1 The classic Newcastle goalkeeper choice. Pavel Srníček wore the traditional No.1 and was already a popular and established member of the club before sharing duties with Hislop during 1995/96. HISLOP 15 has the strongest direct connection to the 1995/96 season itself.
Hislop arrived ahead of the campaign and made 24 of Newcastle’s 38 Premier League appearances, starting all 24. Newcastle won 16 of those league matches and Hislop kept nine clean sheets. Srníček appeared in 15 league matches, starting 14.
There is, however, a genuine case for SRNÍČEK 1 if the aim is the most recognisable traditional goalkeeper printing. Srníček had been at Newcastle since 1991, wore No.1 in 1995/96, and remained an important goalkeeper during the following season as well. Contemporary season records explicitly distinguish SRNÍČEK 1 from HISLOP 15.
