The PSV Eindhoven 1995-96 Home Retro Football Shirt recreates the club’s classic red-and-white look from the final Eindhoven season of Ronaldo Nazário, and a campaign in which PSV lifted the KNVB Cup and reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals.

The shirt features PSV’s traditional red-and-white vertical stripes, complemented by a distinctive white fold-over collar incorporating a red-and-white chequered pattern. Black detailing around the sleeve cuffs provides additional contrast. Period kit records identify the 1995/96 Home design as red, white and black and confirm its use in both the Eredivisie and UEFA Cup.

This shirt belongs to an excellent PSV generation featuring Ronaldo, Luc Nilis, Phillip Cocu, Wim Jonk, Arthur Numan and Boudewijn Zenden. The squad also included a young Jaap Stam, who joined during the season and would develop into one of the leading European defenders of his generation.

For collectors, the shirt has two particularly strong player associations: RONALDO 9, representing one of the world's greatest young talents in his final PSV campaign, and NILIS 10, representing PSV's outstanding performer across the full 1995/96 season.

Historical Significance: Ronaldo’s second and final season with PSV

The 1995/96 season was another strong campaign for Dick Advocaat’s PSV, even though the Eredivisie championship ultimately went elsewhere. PSV finished second domestically, won the KNVB Cup and progressed to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup.

The attacking story of the season centred on Luc Nilis and Ronaldo.

Nilis enjoyed an outstanding league campaign, scoring 21 Eredivisie goals in 31 appearances. That total made him the league’s leading scorer in 1995/96 and established the Belgian as PSV's most consistently productive forward across the season.

Ronaldo’s campaign was very different. Injuries substantially restricted his playing time, but his scoring rate remained remarkable: 12 goals from only 13 Eredivisie appearances. Across all competitions, PSV season statistics credit him with 19 goals from 21 appearances.

The young Brazilian was still only 19 during the campaign. His performances across his two PSV seasons had already established him as one of world football’s most exciting talents, and 1995/96 proved to be his final campaign in Eindhoven before his move to Barcelona in the summer of 1996.

PSV had considerable quality beyond the two forwards. Phillip Cocu scored 12 Eredivisie goals and became an increasingly important member of the team, while Wim Jonk provided experience and creativity through central midfield. Boudewijn Zenden was also beginning to establish himself, recording seven league goals during the campaign.

The season also marked the arrival of Jaap Stam. He made 14 Eredivisie appearances after joining PSV and would go on to become a major figure for both club and country. Young Icelandic forward Eiður Guðjohnsen was another member of the squad, making 13 league appearances and scoring three times.

    UEFA Cup Campaign

PSV produced a strong run in the 1995/96 UEFA Cup, reaching the quarter-finals.

European statistics show Nilis scoring five goals, Wim Jonk three and Phillip Cocu two during the competition. Nilis, Jonk, Cocu and Numan each started all eight of PSV's UEFA Cup matches, illustrating their importance to the European campaign.

The quarter-final brought PSV up against Barcelona. In the first leg at Camp Nou on 5 March 1996, PSV’s documented starting lineup included Numan 5, Jonk 8, Nilis 10 and Cocu 11. Ronaldo was unavailable, with René Eijkelkamp starting as No.9. PSV were eventually eliminated at the quarter-final stage.

    KNVB Cup Winners

Domestic cup competition provided the season's major trophy.

PSV reached the 1996 KNVB Cup Final against Sparta Rotterdam and produced a convincing 5–2 victory, ensuring that Advocaat’s side finished the campaign with silverware.

The cup triumph gave the 1995/96 Home shirt an important place in PSV history. It represents not only Ronaldo’s final Eindhoven season, but a squad containing established stars and several players who would become major names in European football over the following years.

  • Rec. Player Printing Options

    Printing Recommendation
RONALDO 9 The iconic collector’s choice. Ronaldo is documented wearing No.9 and scored 12 league goals in only 13 appearances during his second and final PSV season.
NILIS 10 The strongest full-season choice. Luc Nilis scored 21 Eredivisie goals and another five in the UEFA Cup, making him PSV’s most consistently productive attacker in 1995/96.
COCU 11 An excellent midfield option. Phillip Cocu scored 12 league goals and started all eight UEFA Cup matches, establishing himself as a major figure in the PSV side.
JONK 8 A classic midfield choice. Wim Jonk provided experience and creativity and scored three times during PSV’s run to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals.
NUMAN 5 The captain’s choice. Arthur Numan was one of PSV’s most important defenders and is documented wearing No.5 while captaining the side.
VINK 7 A distinctive period option. Marciano Vink was a regular member of the midfield and is documented in the No.7 shirt during major 1995/96 fixtures.
ZENDEN 14 An excellent young-player option. Boudewijn Zenden was emerging into the senior side and scored seven Eredivisie goals; his number should be checked against a specific match for strict accuracy.
STAM – Match Specific A fascinating late-season option. Jaap Stam joined PSV during 1995/96 and made 14 league appearances, but his number should be matched to the specific fixture rather than treated as permanent.

RONALDO 9 is the defining collector’s printing for the PSV Eindhoven 1995-96 Home Retro Football Shirt.

Despite being restricted to 13 Eredivisie appearances, Ronaldo scored 12 league goals, while PSV's full-season records credit him with 19 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.

Crucially for printing accuracy, surviving match records document Ronaldo wearing No.9, including PSV’s November 1995 Eredivisie meeting with Ajax, where the attacking pairing was Ronaldo 9 and Nilis 10.

The shirt also represents Ronaldo’s final PSV season, giving the combination additional historical significance before his move to Barcelona in 1996.

For pure 1995/96 season performance, however, NILIS 10 is an equally compelling alternative. Nilis played 31 Eredivisie matches and scored 21 goals, finishing as the league’s top scorer, while also contributing five goals during PSV’s UEFA Cup run.
