The Club Olimpia 2002 Away Goalkeeper Retro Football Shirt is one of the most distinctive goalkeeper designs from the club’s historic Copa Libertadores-winning centenary season, and is directly associated with legendary goalkeeper Ricardo Tavarelli.
The shirt features a vivid red body with contrasting black long sleeves, white piping and repeating Uhlsport detailing running along the shoulders and sleeves. Most distinctive is the oversized goalkeeper monkey graphic across the front — a personal design associated with Tavarelli’s goalkeeper shirts. A matching graphic appears on the back surrounding the TAVARELLI 1 printing.
Contemporary evidence from a match-worn Tavarelli shirt confirms that these large monkey graphics were designed by Tavarelli himself for his goalkeeper outfits, making this one of the most personal and unusual goalkeeper shirts of the 2002 Copa Libertadores campaign.

Season Information
Season: 2002
Club: Club Olimpia
Country: Paraguay
Competition: Paraguayan Primera División / Copa Libertadores
Copa Libertadores: Champions
Kit Type: Away Goalkeeper Shirt
Category: Retro Football ShirtThe 2002 season holds a special place in Olimpia history. Celebrating the club’s centenary, the Paraguayan giants embarked on an extraordinary Copa Libertadores campaign under Nery Pumpido and ultimately captured their third South American championship.
Goalkeeper Ricardo Tavarelli was one of the central figures of that run. A surviving match-worn TAVARELLI 1 Uhlsport goalkeeper shirt from the February 2002 group-stage match against Universidad Católica confirms both his No.1 and the distinctive personalised monkey artwork used on his goalkeeper jerseys.
Olimpia’s route to the trophy included a dramatic semi-final against Grêmio. After the tie required a penalty shootout, Tavarelli saved Rodrigo Fabri’s attempt as Olimpia advanced to the final.
In the final, Olimpia faced São Caetano. They lost the first leg 1–0 in Asunción but produced a famous comeback in São Paulo on 31 July 2002. Goals from Gastón Córdoba and Richart Báez gave Olimpia a 2–1 victory, levelling the tie 2–2 on aggregate before Olimpia won the penalty shootout 4–2. Tavarelli started both legs in goal.
The combination of Olimpia’s centenary year, Copa Libertadores triumph and Tavarelli’s personalised goalkeeper design makes this an especially significant South American goalkeeper shirt.
