    Year: 1986
    National Team: Uruguay
    Country: Uruguay
Competition: 1986 FIFA World Cup – Mexico
    Kit Type: Home Jersey

Uruguay returned to the FIFA World Cup in Mexico 1986 after missing the 1978 and 1982 tournaments. Drawn into Group E alongside West Germany, Denmark and Scotland, La Celeste progressed from the group stage before facing eventual champions Argentina in the Round of 16. Uruguay were eliminated following a 1–0 defeat.

The team was coached by Omar Borrás and featured several notable players of the era, including Enzo Francescoli, Antonio Alzamendi, Jorge Barrios, Jorge da Silva and Rubén Paz. Francescoli started all four of Uruguay’s matches and scored against Denmark, while Alzamendi scored against West Germany; they were Uruguay’s only two goalscorers at the tournament.

The 1986 home jersey is especially remembered for its association with Francescoli #10, who was already emerging as the defining Uruguayan footballer of his generation.
