The SSC Napoli 1982–83 Home Retro Football Shirt represents the club during the final years before the arrival of Diego Maradona, when Dutch legend Ruud Krol was still one of the defining figures of the team.
The shirt uses Napoli’s unmistakable sky-blue base and was produced by Ennerre, with Cirio appearing as the principal shirt sponsor. The 1982/83 season is also notable for the introduction of a distinctive Napoli crest combining the famous “N” with the head of a donkey, a historic symbol associated with the club.
Napoli actually used variations of the home design during the campaign. Early versions featured a V-neck with darker detailing and dark shorts, before the club returned to a more traditional combination with white detailing and white shorts later in the season.
With its simple sky-blue appearance and classic early-1980s styling, this shirt captures an important pre-Maradona period in Napoli history.

Category: Retro Football ShirtThe 1982/83 season proved difficult for Napoli. After finishing fourth in Serie A the previous year, the club struggled badly during the first half of the campaign and became involved in a relegation battle. A managerial change brought Bruno Pesaola back into an influential technical role, and improved results during the second half of the season eventually secured survival. Contemporary tables list Napoli with 28 points, level with Avellino and finishing safely above the relegation places.
In Europe, Napoli competed in the UEFA Cup, overcoming Dinamo Tbilisi in the opening round before being eliminated by 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the following round. Their Coppa Italia campaign reached the quarter-finals.
The squad was headlined by Ruud Krol, the legendary Netherlands international who had previously captained Ajax and the Dutch national team. Long-serving Napoli captain Giuseppe Bruscolotti remained an important defensive presence, while Argentine striker Ramón Díaz joined the club for the season. Claudio Pellegrini was Napoli’s leading Serie A scorer with five league goals, while Díaz scored three in the league and eight across all competitions.
Although 1982/83 was not one of Napoli’s most successful seasons, the shirt represents an interesting transitional period immediately before the club entered the transformative Maradona era.
Rec. Player Printing Options
Printing Recommendation KROL 5 Legendary Netherlands international and the biggest international name in the Napoli squad. The former Ajax captain was one of the defining players of Napoli’s early-1980s era. BRUSCOLOTTI 2 Legendary long-serving Napoli defender and captain, affectionately known as “Pal ’e fierro” for his strength and commitment. One of the most authentic club-legend choices for this shirt. DIAZ 9 Argentine international striker who joined Napoli from River Plate for 1982/83. He scored eight goals across all competitions and provides a distinctive pre-Maradona Argentine connection. PELLEGRINI 11 Regular Napoli forward who played throughout the campaign and finished as the club’s leading Serie A scorer with five league goals. FERRARIO 6 Dependable Italian defender who appeared in every Serie A match during the season and was an important part of Napoli’s defensive unit. CELESTINI 8 Naples-born midfielder who developed through Napoli’s system and became a regular member of the first team during the early 1980s. DAL FIUME 7 Hard-working Italian midfielder and an established member of the 1982/83 side, offering a less common period-authentic printing option. Early-1980s Italian football did not operate with the permanently assigned season-long squad-number system used today, so numbers on this shirt should be treated as period/match-associated choices rather than modern fixed squad numbers.
KROL 5 is the strongest printing recommendation for the SSC Napoli 1982–83 Home Retro Football Shirt.
Ruud Krol was already a genuine European football legend before joining Napoli. A central figure in the great Ajax side of the 1970s and captain of the Netherlands, he brought enormous international prestige to Napoli and became one of the club’s most important players in the years immediately preceding Maradona.
Krol also played all 30 Serie A matches in 1982/83, making his association with this particular shirt especially strong.
For this specific pre-Maradona Napoli jersey, KROL 5 offers the best combination of historical significance, recognisability and direct connection to the 1982/83 team.
