The SSC Napoli 1981–82 Home Retro Football Shirt recalls an impressive pre-Maradona season in Naples. Under Rino Marchesi, Napoli finished fourth in Serie A with 35 points, behind only Juventus, Fiorentina and Roma, while also reaching the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. Their UEFA Cup campaign ended in the first round against Radnički Niš, but the league campaign confirmed Napoli as one of Italy’s strongest sides of the period.

The squad featured Dutch legend Ruud Krol alongside long-serving Napoli figure Giuseppe Bruscolotti, Oscar Damiani, Gaetano Musella and leading scorer Claudio Pellegrini. Pellegrini scored 11 league goals and 13 in all competitions, while Krol provided international pedigree and defensive quality during one of Napoli’s strongest seasons of the early 1980s.

The shirt is instantly recognisable for its clean Azzurro sky-blue body, finished with a traditional V-neck and fine white stripe detailing around the collar and cuffs. Its most historically significant feature is the black Snaidero sponsorship across the chest, introduced in 1981–82 as Napoli began using commercial shirt sponsorship for the first time. Free from elaborate graphics and dominated by the club’s famous sky-blue colour, the understated design perfectly captures the character of early-1980s Napoli before the arrival of the Maradona era.

  • Rec. Player Printing Options

    Printing Recommendation
5 (Ruud Krol) Best Printing Choice. The strongest overall collector option, combining Krol’s international reputation with a well-documented No.5 association during his Napoli career.
9 (Claudio Pellegrini) The strongest choice based on 1981–82 performance. Pellegrini was Napoli’s leading scorer with 11 Serie A goals and 13 in all competitions, while period match-shirt evidence confirms No.9.
2 (Giuseppe Bruscolotti) An outstanding club-identity choice for one of Napoli’s most important long-serving defenders, with No.2 strongly documented during the period.
8 (Claudio Vinazzani) A period-correct midfield alternative; an authenticated 1981–82 shirt has been documented with Vinazzani’s No.8.
10 (Antonino Criscimanni) A strong period-specific attacking-midfield option where match-line-up context supports the traditional No.10 role, though numbers were assigned by match rather than permanently.

Best Printing Choice: 5 (Ruud Krol)
    Second Choice: 9 (Claudio Pellegrini)
    Third Choice: 2 (Giuseppe Bruscolotti)

We recommend No.5 (Ruud Krol) as the standout printing choice for the SSC Napoli 1981–82 Home Retro Football Shirt. The legendary Dutch defender was one of the most internationally recognised players in Napoli’s pre-Maradona era, and No.5 is strongly associated with his time in Naples. Combining exceptional football pedigree with a direct connection to this early-1980s Napoli side, No.5 offers the strongest overall collector appeal.

Our second recommendation is No.9 (Claudio Pellegrini). Pellegrini was Napoli’s leading scorer during the 1981–82 campaign, finding the net 11 times in Serie A and 13 times in all competitions. Period match-shirt evidence confirms his use of No.9, making it the strongest choice for collectors who prioritise performance in this specific season.
