The SSC Napoli 1980–81 home shirt recalls one of the club's finest pre-Maradona campaigns. Under Rino Marchesi, Napoli emerged as genuine Serie A title challengers and finished third behind Juventus and Roma. The season included a memorable 4–0 victory over Roma at the San Paolo and marked the arrival of Dutch great Ruud Krol, whose influence helped transform the side into one of Italy's strongest teams. Wikipedia

Krol became one of the defining figures of the campaign, while Claudio Pellegrini led the team with 11 Serie A goals and long-serving defender Giuseppe Bruscolotti completed every league match. Napoli also competed in the Coppa Italia, narrowly missing progression from the opening group stage on goal difference. Adamoli Family

The shirt is instantly recognisable for its clean Napoli sky-blue body and minimalist early-1980s styling. The principal home version featured a V-neck finished with fine white striping, with matching striped detailing at the cuffs and the club badge positioned on the chest. A white-collared home variation was also produced during 1980–81, featuring blue striping around the collar and cuffs. Crucially, this was the season immediately before commercial shirt sponsorship appeared on Napoli shirts, leaving the front notably clean and giving the jersey its distinctive early-1980s appearance.

    Printing Recommendation
5 (Ruud Krol) We recommend No.5 for Ruud Krol, the Dutch defensive great whose arrival transformed Napoli's 1980–81 side. He started 29 league matches wearing No.5 and became one of the defining players of the season.
11 (Claudio Pellegrini) The strongest performance-based alternative. Pellegrini was Napoli's leading Serie A scorer with 11 goals and appeared in all 30 league matches, starting 26 times in the No.11 shirt.
2 (Giuseppe Bruscolotti) An outstanding club-heritage choice. Long-serving defender and future captain Bruscolotti played every minute of Napoli's 30-match Serie A campaign, consistently wearing No.2.
9 (Gaetano Musella) A classic attacking option from the campaign. Musella scored five league goals and most frequently started in the No.9 shirt, although numbers were assigned by match rather than permanently.
7 (Oscar Damiani) A strong period-correct choice. Damiani made 27 league appearances, scored three goals and started most frequently wearing No.7.

We recommend No.5 for Ruud Krol as the leading printing option for the 1980–81 home jersey. The legendary Dutch defender arrived at Napoli in 1980 and became an immediate cornerstone of Rino Marchesi's side, making 29 Serie A appearances as the club mounted an unexpected Scudetto challenge and ultimately finished third. A two-time World Cup finalist with the Netherlands and one of the outstanding defenders of his generation, Krol gives the shirt both a particularly strong connection to the 1980–81 season and exceptional international recognition. Wikipedia

No.11 for Claudio Pellegrini is the strongest alternative for supporters prioritising performance in this specific season. Pellegrini played in all 30 league matches and finished as Napoli's leading Serie A scorer with 11 goals. Because Napoli were still using traditional match-day numbering rather than permanent squad numbers, the historically appropriate printing is simply 11, without the player's name.

The 1980–81 season was one of Napoli's strongest campaigns before the Maradona era. Under new manager Rino Marchesi, the club finished third in Serie A with 38 points, behind champions Juventus and runners-up Roma. Napoli remained in the title race deep into the season and had drawn level with Juventus and Roma at the top with five matches remaining before late defeats ended their Scudetto challenge. Wikipedia

One of the defining developments of the season was the arrival of Dutch international Ruud Krol, following the reopening of Serie A to foreign players. Krol immediately became a central figure in Napoli's defence and played 29 of the 30 league matches. Napoli also produced one of their most memorable results of the campaign with a 4–0 home victory over Roma in October 1980. Claudio Pellegrini finished as the club's leading league scorer with 11 goals, while Giuseppe Bruscolotti played every Serie A match. Napolissimo

In the Coppa Italia, Napoli competed in the opening group stage. They finished level with Bologna at the top of their group but Bologna progressed on goal difference, leaving Napoli eliminated before the quarter-finals. Napoli did not compete in European competition in 1980–81.
