The Liverpool 2008–09 Third Retro Football Shirt recalls one of the strongest Premier League campaigns of the Rafael Benítez era. Liverpool finished second with 86 points after losing just twice in the league, completing league doubles over both Manchester United and Chelsea. The campaign included the unforgettable 4–1 victory at Old Trafford, while Liverpool also reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after defeating Real Madrid 5–0 on aggregate.

Captain Steven Gerrard was one of the outstanding figures of the campaign, supported by a celebrated Liverpool generation featuring Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Dirk Kuyt and Jamie Carragher. The season proved to be Alonso’s final campaign at Anfield, adding further collector significance to a shirt associated with one of Liverpool’s strongest sides of the late 2000s. The confirmed 2008–09 squad numbers include Gerrard 8, Torres 9, Alonso 14, Kuyt 18, Mascherano 20 and Carragher 23.

The shirt is instantly recognisable for its unusual teal blue-green base, a dramatic departure from Liverpool’s traditional red home identity. Subtle tonal vertical stripes run through the body, while a contrasting black fold-over polo collar creates one of the shirt’s most distinctive visual features. White detailing across the shoulders and the prominent Carlsberg sponsorship complete a design that is unmistakably associated with the late-2000s Liverpool era. Its rare teal colourway makes this Third shirt particularly distinctive within Liverpool’s extensive history of alternative kits.

    Best Printing Choice: GERRARD 8

    Second Choice: TORRES 9

    Third Choice: ALONSO 14

We recommend GERRARD 8 as the standout printing choice for the Liverpool 2008–09 Third Retro Football Shirt. Captain Steven Gerrard was at the heart of one of Liverpool’s strongest Premier League campaigns of the era, finishing as the club’s leading scorer in all competitions as Rafael Benítez’s side collected 86 points and lost just twice in the league. His performances, leadership and iconic No.8 make GERRARD 8 the strongest combination of season relevance, club history and collector appeal.

Our second recommendation is TORRES 9. Fernando Torres was one of the defining attacking stars of this Liverpool generation and played a memorable role in the famous 4–1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. With the No.9 closely associated with his time at Anfield, TORRES 9 remains one of the most recognisable printing choices from the late-2000s Liverpool era.
