The 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup Final was held at Nya Ullevi, Gothenburg, between Aberdeen and Real Madrid. Aberdeen, who had played an extra preliminary round, took the lead through Eric Black, before Juanito equalized with a penalty. After normal time ended 1–1, John Hewitt scored in extra time to give Aberdeen a 2–1 victory and their first European trophy. It was the last Cup Winners’ Cup final for both clubs, with the competition later discontinued in 1999.
